Members only. This course offers an opportunity for members to hone their skills on a challenging subject - the human figure. The monitor will schedule a model and keep track of timed poses. Use the medium of your choice to capture each pose. Any medium.

Learn the fundamentals fo portrait drawing and painting, including drawing a skull or skeleton.  Learn the art history of the portrait while working from clothed models and self-portrait.  Realistic to abstract artists are encouraged to use any traditional medium such as watercolor, oils, acrylics, pastels or pencils.  Teens Welcome! Watercolor is a versatile medium, which can be used in a transparent or opaque manner. Students will learn about the work of master watercolor painters, past and present, and will experiment with both transparent and opaque watercolor. Using a variety of subject matter, students will learn some of the fundamentals of painting in watercolor. Techniques will include drawing for watercolor, painting without drawing, wet-in-wet watercolor, glazing with watercolor washes, the use of gouache and other aqueous media with watercolor. Each class will begin with a demonstration and explanation of the technique for the day. Students will be encouraged to work in their own style. Each class will end with a group critique with the emphasis on constructive criticism. Teens Welcome. Materials will be discussed first class.

This workshop is an opportunity for students to work independently and learn from each other as well as from the instructor. The instructor will share the work of master watercolor painters, past and present, working in transparent and opaque medium. Students will be encouraged to experiment with transparent and opaque watercolor and mixed aqueous media and to develop their own personal style. Each class will end with a group critique with the emphasis on constructive criticism.
